Spring Equinox (Ostara)

One of the eight festivals that most Pagans today celebrate, the Vernal Equinox is a day of equal sunlight and night-time. It is a good time to acknowledge the power of the shadow, but also the returning power of light and life.

In the Celtic and Ango-Saxon traditions, the day is called Ostara or Eostre, a word of uncertain etymology that Jacob Grimm connected with a theoretical Indo-European god/ess of the dawn.

March 21 is also the day of the Sun's entry into Aries, and the beginning of the astrological year.
