Hecate was originally a grove goddess — a wild maiden or dryad associated with a group of trees. Later, she became the mistress of magic, and gradually altered from the maiden to the crone. In Roman lore, she became associated with Atropos, the scissor-wielding elder of the three Fates.

Today in ritual and meditation, consider the role of 'death' and cutting forces in leading us on our spiritual path, and also note how aging transforms us from upstart and wild youths to beings of maturity and power.
